Where is leadership development heading?
Over the last month or so, I travelled much more than I often do to undertake a range of professional development for myself. I love learning, so these activities were a real treat! I wanted to share some of these experiences with you to give you a sense of where leadership development is heading in this increasingly uncertain world.
Melbourne to meet with some very ‘old’ friends and colleagues to explore the use of the Inner Development Goals (IDGs). The IDGs have emerged from scholars and researchers as they sought to understand why we are not reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Their answer to this question points to the inner work of sustainability I have been exploring and practising since 2003. Watch a video about the IDGs here (3:42 mins).
Leading Through Collapse in Brisbane for four days with Professor Jem Bendell and Katie Carr. What an extraordinary program this was! It was a thoughtful, safe exploration of what choices we might make if our current societies are so affected by climate change and ecological destruction that they collapse. Collapse is a process rather than an event and we also explored what we might do differently if we think this is what will happen. The program was ingeniously crafted and delivered. Moving from the deeply personal to the practice of shaping narratives for change. Really helpful! My thanks to both Jem and Katie for their generosity of spirit and sensitivity in holding such a challenging and important topic.
Finally, I joined Australian Adaptive Leadership Institute in Sydney for a 3-day group exploration of the art of provocation. Again - brilliant facilitation by Michael Johnstone PhD and Maxime Fern. Accompanied superbly by Diana Renner and Cameron Bowles. An exemplar of a group moving through the difficulties of being stuck and coming out the other side. Finding ways (provocative in different degrees) to do the adaptive work.
Thanks for your interest in my work.
